A dazzling one-off flamenco performance at New Park Centre on Saturday has been hailed a resounding success, raising an impressive £1,400 for the charitys vital Raise the Roof appeal.

Presented by Canción Gitana, Picasso His Life and Loves captivated audiences with a powerful and intimate exploration of the life and art of Pablo Picasso. The two-act flamenco spectacular, created and choreographed by principal dancer Helena "La Leyenda", brought together an international ensemble of dancers and musicians in a performance described by attendees as truly amazing, spectacular, intimate and full of warmth and energy.

Thanks to Helenas Flamenco Company Cancion Gitana, who covered all production costs, the full £1,400 raised will go directly to supporting the centres ambitious fundraising campaign.

The event also highlighted the extraordinary impact of community-led fundraising. By coming together, sharing talents and giving what they can, individuals and groups are playing a vital role in protecting this much-loved space for future generations.

Helena said: New Park Centre is incredibly special to me, its more than a venue, its a creative home. We were so pleased to be able to give back in this way. Spaces like this are rare and essential for our wellbeing, for the arts, and for bringing people together. If everyone can give a little, it all adds up and helps secure these places for future generations.

New Park Centre Manager, Allison McDonald-Hughes added: We are so grateful to Helena, and  everyone involved in this beautiful performance. The generosity, talent and community spirit behind this event have been truly inspiring. New Park Centre is a gem at the heart of Chichester, supporting arts, dance, exercise and so much more. Every contribution to our Raise The Roof appeal helps protect this much-loved space for years to come.

Building on this momentum, the centre is also inviting the community to take part in its upcoming Silent Art Auction, running throughout June. The exhibition will showcase a diverse range of works generously donated by local artists, with all proceeds going directly to the Raise The Roof appeal.

There is still time for artists to get involved. Anyone wishing to donate artwork to be included in the auction is warmly encouraged to contact New Park Centre.

The Raise the Roof campaign aims to secure over £450,000 to replace the centres ageing roof, safeguarding a vital community hub that supports thousands of people each year through arts, wellbeing activities and support services.

Following the success of this special event, New Park Centre is encouraging local groups, artists and residents to consider hosting their own fundraising activities, big or small, to support the appeal.

As Helena reflected: Everybody who can, should try to give something, however small. Together, we can make a real difference.
