Roald Dahls beloved story The BFG comes to life on a truly giant scale at Chichester Festival Theatre this spring. This spectacular new coproduction from Chichester Festival Theatre (CFT), Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), Singapore Repertory Theatre and Esplanade Theatres on the Bay and Roald Dahl Story Company is directed by RSC Co-Artistic Director (and former CFT Artistic Director) Daniel Evans.

The opening production of CFTs 2026 Festival season will deliver a theatrical feast of jaw-dropping giants, oversized snozzcumbers, iridescent dream jars and frobscottle fit for the Queen of Enger-land herself.

The show features a cast of 24, including ten talented puppeteers who together operate puppets ranging from the 16-foot Bloodbottler to the seven-inch Sophie. They are supported by a backstage team of more than 60 production staff, seven live musicians, and a creative team of over 30 artists and technical specialists spanning lighting, costume, puppetry, set design, video, illusions, music and sound.

Running at the Festival Theatre from 9 March 11 April, The BFG is the story of a young orphan named Sophie, who is snatched by a giant one night, and taken far away to Giant Country. There she learns that human-eating giants are guzzling 'norphans' the world over.

But she soon discovers that her new friend, the BFG, is different he's a dream-catching, snozzcumber-munching gentle soul who refuses to eat humans!

While other giants wreak havoc, the BFG ignites Sophie's imagination, and they devise a daring plan to save children everywhere. In the end, the smallest human bean and the gentlest giant prove that a dream can change the world.

This darkly comic and mischievous new stage adaptation comes to CFT from the RSC, after which it will transfer to Singapores Esplanade Theatre.

A new set of behind-the-scenes images has been released, offering a glimpse into the extraordinary backstage world that brings this giant adventure to life.
