During the Second World War, Air Sea Rescue became a lifeline for downed aircrew, transforming perilous waters into zones of hope and survival. With the rallying cry The Sea Shall Not Have Them, the RAF Marine Branch deployed high-speed launches, airborne lifeboats, and coordinated rescue missions across the Channel, North Sea, and beyond. From Dunkirk to D-Day, these crews braved enemy fire and brutal conditions to save over 13,000 livesa testament to courage, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of bringing their comrades home. This talk from the museum's Curator, Simon Godfrey, dives into the daring rescues, ingenious technology, and unsung heroes of Britains wartime rescue service.
There will be two talks; at 10:30 and 14:00. Talks are free to attend with a museum entry ticket.
