Dragons and Gold: The art of the Anglo-Saxons

8th November, 10:30 - 12:30  ·  The Novium Museum
1986383 1024xdne

Organised by : The Novium Museum

The Novium Museum will be running three workshops on Saturday mornings to explore the art of Britain from the Iron Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon eras. The sessions, run by Sue Webber, will develop a greater understanding of how ancient art was made and the designs the artists chose.

Anglo-Saxon art is well known through the Sutton Hoo treasures and illuminated manuscripts like the Lindisfarne Gospel. Their art work straddles the Pre-Christian and Christian worlds, the visual and oral tradition, and the written word. This workshop explores Anglo-Saxon metal work, carving and manuscripts.

Using Anglos-Saxon creations as inspiration, we will develop our own designs, or try to replicate their intensity. We will work with brush, pen and ink to explore the intertwined beasts of the manuscripts.

No artistic experience is needed for these sessions and all materials will be provided. Sessions will take place in The Woolstaplers Room at The Novium Museum.

Tickets are £15 per adult and refreshments will be provided. We have a special introductory offer of £35 for all three workshops.
