James Bond Theme Musicians Come to WemsFest
Organised by : Wemsfest
As well as performing in numerous countries since the early 1980s, Quimantus music has also been featured in various films including the score for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace and the band appear in Chidham for WemsFest this October.
Formed in 1981 by Chilean Pinochet
refugee Mauricio Venegas-Astorga the band have been ambassadors of Chilean and
Latin music in the UK and Europe. They subtly blend numerous traditional folk
styles with more contemporary genres such as Classical, Celtic, African and
Indian. Under the guidance of Mauricio Venegas-Astorga they have gained a
reputation as one of the best and most creative groups of their genre.
Quimantus instrumental pieces penetrate directly to the heart; whilst the new
leadership of Laura Venegas-Rojas vocals perfectly complement the musical
expression of the group.
Apart from their work with Dave
Arnold on Quantum of Solace their music has been featured in a number of films
including with Ennio Morricone on The Mission. They also played an integral
role in The Plague and the Moonflower, broadcast on BBC2. They have played at
numerous overseas festivals including the highly prestigious Rose of Tralee and
Letterkenny International Festivals in Eire, and the Ulsan World Music Festival
in South Korea, whilst in the UK they have appeared at many others, including
the Skye World Music Festival, Chichester Festivities, and Sidmouth and Larmer
Tree Festivals.
Quimantu are supremely talented
multi-instrumentalists who continue to be much in demand, and the Old Malthouse
in Chidham will be the perfect and intimate venue for their music.
