Boats and Rivers

A collection of marine paintings capturing the moods of our coastline and rivers – the painting subjects will be appreciated those who have an interest in the sea, boats, harbour locations and our shoreline.

Largely self taught Len took up painting in the early 1990's. He now works exclusively in oils and starts each painting with thin darks to mid-tones and then lights adjusting the values and rounding the forms as the painting develops. He quite often wipes out with a rag – the 'ghost image' retained can quite often offer an atmospheric feature to the composition to capitalise on for seascapes. His preference is to work in the studio using a collection of photographs and sketches accumulated over the years.

His paintings focus notably on marine subjects, the theme of the sea, rivers and boats subject-matter.

Currently he exhibits at The Frame Gallery in Odiham, and at the Oxmarket Arts Centre Chichester.

His inspiration comes from the works of Edward Seago and David Curtis.
