23rd March 2025, 15:30 - 16:40  ·  South Downs Planetarium

Organised by : South Downs Planetarium

During March in the Northern Hemisphere it is getting darker rather later in the evening, while in the Southern Hemisphere the days are now getting shorter. From the North, Mars and Venus are rising about 90 minutes before sunrise, with Saturn not far behind.  From the South, the same three planets are rising three-and-a-half hours before the Sun and are visible in a dark sky.  From here, Venus will be a stunning sight due East in the dawn twilight sky. The Moons ever changing phases are displayed as the Moon waxes and wanes from month to month. The Full Moon on 18th March is known as the Worm Moon. When the Moon is new in early March and early April, the absence of moonlight will enable you to have a clear view of the fainter stars and constellation patterns. Wherever you are in the world, you will need to find a dark site away from city lights for the best experience. Come to the Planetarium for a fascinating whistlestop tour of the night skies in both hemispheres without ever leaving your seat!
