Sandy Burnett begins his overview in 1607 with Monteverdi's astonishing opera, Orfeo, and ends in 1759 with the death of that great 'English' composer, Handel, showing that the Baroque era produced music of great brilliance and emotional depth.
He draws on his experience as a broadcaster, conductor and hands-on musician for an in-depth exploration of this fascinating period of Classical music, with hand-picked images, autograph scores and recorded musical illustrations, with a special focus on the works of JS Bach.
