Noor Khan Talk & SOE Tour
Organised by : Tangmere Military Aviation Museum
If A Small and Quiet Light inspires you to discover more about the extraordinary world of the Special Operations Executive, a visit to Tangmere Military Aviation Museum is the perfect next step.
Located on the site of the former RAF Tangmere—one of Britains most famous wartime fighter stations—the museum tells the story of the men and women who fought, flew and served in some of the most dangerous operations of the Second World War. Alongside an outstanding collection of historic aircraft, including the record-breaking Hawker Hunter and the RJ Mitchell Memorial Spitfire Prototype, youll discover the remarkable stories of the people behind them.
Among the museums many fascinating exhibits is a full-size replica of the Westland Lysander, the remarkable aircraft used to fly SOE agents secretly into and out of occupied France under the cover of darkness. Nearby are authentic examples of the ingenious equipment carried by agents in the field, including concealed radios, forged documents, hidden weapons and everyday objects adapted for espionage.
To accompany A Small and Quiet Life, acknowledged SOE historian Sheryl Green will present an exclusive Noor Khan Talk & SOE Tour at the museum. Combining an engaging, illustrated talk with a guided tour of the museums SOE collection, Sheryl will reveal how Noor was recruited and trained, the controversy surrounding the decision to send her to France and all that she achieved once there. During the course of the afternoon, Sheryl will also explain the clandestine air operations through RAF Tangmere with stories of the agents and personnel involved, highlighting the immense courage required by all those involved; pilots and agents alike.
