Capturing the World in Wax and Dyes
13 - 25 October
Rosi Robinson is a batik artist, teacher, author and lecturer in batik. For over 40 years, she has been captivated by this magical medium and has pushed it in a more figurative way than most batik artists. She has exhibited and lectured throughout the world, including China, Japan, Indonesia, Belgium, Germany, USA, Canada and UK.
She has written three books on batik; has been featured in a number of magazines including Craft and Design Magazine (Sept/Oct 2011) and was a finalist in the Feb/March 2014 International Artist Magazine competition. Rosi has a 7 minute film on 'You Tube' where you can get an insight into how she creates her batik paintings. In 2012, she produced a double DVD – Batik Workshop – Fun with Paper and Fabric (Studio Galli).
In 2013, Rosi retired from full-time teaching after 28 years as Head of Art at Cumnor House School , Danehill in Sussex. She now lectures and teaches batik workshops to both adults and children throughout the UK.
In this exhibition Rosi's batiks show how versatile and exciting this traditional Far Eastern technique of decorating fabric using wax and dyes can be. Inspired by her travels, her subject matter includes land and seascapes, reflections, animals, birds and sporting scenes.
