Organised by : Pallant House Gallery

We will explore the print works in the Hockney to Himid exhibition and draw inspiration from them for making our own prints. You will have the chance experiment with different techniques for building your plate, learn about how to ink up, working with different colours and inks and finally have a go at using a printing press. This weekend long workshop will give you the chance to master printmaking skills and experiment with different techniques to create your own series of prints.

Collagraph printing is a versatile printing process in which a multi-textured effect is created by sticking a collage of different materials to a plate which is then inked up and put through a press. It is a highly experimental, versatile and fun type of printmaking, for which you need no prior experience.

  • Students will gain ideas and inspiration from the exhibition and sketch out ideas.
  • Create Collagraph plate. Use existing materials supplied, bringing in their own and/or cutting into the plate.
  • Sealing the Collagraph plate. Once the plate is dry the plates needs to be varnished using Shellac or a matte medium.
  • Inking Choose colour/s, cut paper to size and soaking paper.
  • Printing Use a printing press to print Collagraph plate.

Materials: We will provide materials.

The workshop is run by Chichester-based illustrator Diane Dunning. Diane has a background in Collagraphy, digital illustration and mixed-media design and commercial experience working in digital design, education and art within the community.
