Dapper market will support vintage and classic motorcycle charity event as it revs into Chichester
Classic motorcycles and riders from across West Sussex will be returning to Chichester city centre for the grand finish to their annual charity ride on Sunday 17 May.
The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride is an annual global charity event in aid of mens health charity Movember, and celebrates vintage and classic motorcycles and their dapper dressed motorcycle riders. The West Sussex ride starts in Shoreham and finishes in Chichester at approximately 1pm with a parade along North Street through to West and South Streets. The ride has visited the city centre for the past three years, raising tens of thousands of pounds for mens mental health support.
Chichester District Council is supporting this years event again by organising a dapper and classic themed market in the city centre. Around 18 stalls will be located along East Street from 10am until 4pm.
Local businesses will include Mono Motorcycles; St Wilfrids Hospices vintage and retro shop; The Almshouse; Made Sideways; Mucky Duck Spa; Angelas Attic; and, Vintage Moda. The Escapist will also be attending showcasing their speciality-brewed DGR low alcohol beer, while The George & Dragon pub will be attending with their popular food trailer.
In addition, organisations including Movember, Rotary Novum Beacon, the Wellbeing team from Chichester District Council and a new mens mental health hub Brothers, Bangers, Bikes and Brews based in Terminus Road will be attending to provide information and advice about what they offer.
People will be able to enjoy browsing the stalls and sampling local food and drink ahead of the riders big entrance when they will arrive along North Street at around 1pm. The bikes will be parking in West and South Street near the Market Cross, until around 4pm.
The market stalls will provide the opportunity for people to support some local businesses and producers, while Remember the Night will provide music for the day.
Were really pleased to be working with the ride organisers again this year, says Laurence Foord, Divisional Manager for Licensing, Communications and Events at Chichester District Council. Its a unique event that supports a wonderful cause last years event created a real spectacle in the city centre which many people enjoyed. The idea behind the dapper market is to help enhance the event, encourage people into the city centre to enjoy the motorcycles and stay longer to support local traders and businesses.
As a council we are always looking to work with other event organisers to help them make the most of their offering. The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride is in aid of a fantastic cause and we look forward to seeing the riders - we hope that as many people as possible will come and give them a huge welcome!
