People will be able to sample and find out about the healthiest and most sustainably produced foods at a new event which celebrates food made in a way that benefits the environment.

The first Sussex Biodiversity and Regenerative Food Festival is a free event that will take place on Sunday 28 June in East Street and North Street, Chichester. The event aims to celebrate the producers and organisations that help make a regenerative local food system and a wilder, more nature-filled region.

Chichester is one of over 15 UK locations selected by organisers Regenerative Foods for the festival. The organisations mission is to restore the UKs biodiversity and protect the climate while providing accessible, nutrient-dense food.

Stalls will be open to visitors from 10am until 4pm on North Street and East Street in the city centre, and there will be a vast offering of regenerative and organic growers, bakers, makers, street food vendors, crafters, charities, community groups, demos and more.

The areas of focus for the event will include community engagement in the natural world, alongside local artisanal crafts, organic gardening and heritage seeds and plants.

Councillor Harsha Desai, Cabinet Member for Growth, Economic Development, Communication, Licensing and Events, says: Following the many successful food markets that Chichester has hosted and continues to host, we are delighted to be welcoming the Sussex Biodiversity and Regenerative Food Festival to the city for the first time. We are committed to providing a variety of events around the district, and hope that people will come along to support this event and welcome the many local producers and organisations in attendance that support the local food system. The event offers a different slant on the traditional food festival, with visitors able to find out more from the producers about their methods and how they are contributing positively to the environment by working with nature. In addition, members of our Waste and Recycling team at Chichester District Council will also be at the event to discuss local food waste collection services and recycling initiatives with residents.
