In the last year, UKHarvest have rescued 641 tonnes of healthy and nutritious food from going to waste. Through this food rescue, the charity has redistributed 1,510,000 meals worth of food to communities across West Sussex. Thats 1,510,000 meals worth of nutritious food that was destined for the bin! UKHarvest ensured that vulnerable people in our society and those experiencing food insecurity could eat well and support their households.
This December, for one week only, UKHarvest are running their biggest fundraising appeal, The Big Give Christmas Challenge. The Big Give Christmas Challenge is a nationwide campaign, and UKHarvest have been successfully selected to take part, this December.
Donations made between 2nd and 9th December will be doubled thanks to the generous match funding provided through The Big Give.
As UKHarvest's biggest fundraising appeal of the year, Joanna Lodge, Communications Manager at UKHarvest has shared that "Its easy to think that we live in a prosperous and affluent area, however, the UKHarvest team speak to so many people in our community, on a daily basis who are not able to feed their families, who are skipping meals to make sure there's enough food for their kids to eat and members of the community who find themselves alone and isolated with little money to support themselves and no one to share their time with. All aspects of our operations strive to combat food poverty and social isolation, supporting people to become resilient and empowered. Donate anything you can to our Big Give Christmas Campaign to help us help our communities to thrive.
UKHarvest are hoping to raise a staggering £40k through this appeal. Every penny donated during The Big Give Christmas Challenge will be doubled; double the donation, double the impact. To donate visit UKHarvest's Big Give Christmas Challenge Appeal Page.
According to the DWP 2023/24 report, 7.5 million people in the UK are experiencing food poverty. 18% of children in the UK are living in food poverty; there is still so much more we can do.
Donating £5 will give UKHarvest £10, enough to feed a family 3 meals a day for two days.
