With a week to go until the return of Chichester Cathedral's Festival of Flowers, the city is preparing for a spectacular celebration of flowers, creativity and community - with floral experiences unfolding not only within the Cathedral, but across Chichesters streets, shops, restaurants and cultural venues.

Returning from 3- 6 June 2026, the much-loved Festival marks its 30th anniversary this year, transforming Chichester Cathedral with more than 50,000 blooms, 66 floral displays and the creativity of professional florists, volunteers, students and community makers.

Since its launch in 1996, the biennial Festival has become one of the region's most cherished events - and in 2026, its spirit is set to extend further than ever before.

A landmark year for the Festival of Flowers

Inspired by this year's theme, Natures Embrace, visitors can expect breathtaking floral artistry throughout the Cathedrals historic spaces, alongside the much-loved atmosphere that has made the Festival a highlight of the citys cultural calendar.

During the Festival, visitors are invited to explore the Festival of Flowers Market in the Cloisters and on the Cathedral Green. Free to enter and open to all, the vibrant market will feature a wide range of stalls offering gifts, plants, homeware, local food and artisan products from Sussex-based suppliers and businesses.

The Plant Market also returns after a four-year interval, bringing seasonal flowers, houseplants and a rotating selection of popup stalls to the Cathedral Green. Featured traders include Chalk Farm Flowers, East Ashling Nurseries and Dinky Plants.

Beyond the Cathedral walls: introducing Chichester in Bloom

For the first time, the Festival's floral spirit will extend beyond the Cathedral walls through Chichester in Bloom, a new city-wide initiative led by Chichester BID.

Running from 3-7 June, the inaugural trail will see more than 15 city centre businesses transform their shopfronts with bespoke floral installations, created in collaboration with independent Chichester florists Flower and Hedge Rose.

Visitors are invited to step beyond the Cathedral and discover a trail of floral moments woven through the city centre, from elegant installations and artistic interpretations to colourful displays bringing scent, creativity and personality into the streets.

Participating businesses include Pallant House Gallery, Waterstones, Chichester Festival Theatre, Fernleigh, Brasserie Blanc, Gold Arts, Elizabeth Miles and Q Hair & Beauty, with many more businesses across the city adding floral touches of their own.

The initiative has been designed to encourage visitors to spend more time exploring the city centre, supporting local businesses and experiencing Chichester as a connected cultural destination.

Make a day of it

Alongside the floral trail, businesses across Chichester are joining the celebrations with a range of themed experiences, giving visitors even more reasons to explore the city during the Festival.

At The Ivy Chichester, guests can enjoy a limited-edition Flower Show dessert, while Fernleigh is offering floral-inspired treats, seasonal cocktails, creative events and its Floral Edit exhibition. Brasserie Blanc is also joining the celebrations with floral-themed experiences, including a special Flowers & Fizz offer for Festival visitors.

From creative workshops and gallery experiences to themed menus and relaxed dining, the Festival offers the perfect opportunity to turn a visit to Chichester into a full day out - or even a long weekend away.

Natasha McLeod, CEO of Chichester BID, said:

Chichester in Bloom is a wonderful opportunity to build on the energy and appeal of the Festival of Flowers, helping to bring even more vibrancy into the city centre. By extending the experience beyond the Cathedral, we're encouraging visitors to explore more of Chichester, spend longer in the city and discover the incredible range of independent shops, restaurants, galleries and businesses we have here.

It's a brilliant example of collaboration across the city, with businesses coming together to create something vibrant, welcoming and memorable for residents and visitors alike. We hope it not only enhances the Festival experience, but also reinforces Chichesters reputation as one of the South Coasts leading cultural and visitor destinations.
